Historically, men have dominated the dating world when it comes to planning or preparing a date. That has drastically begun to change in recent years, as there are not very many dating “rules” that consistently apply at all time. No longer do men pay for every date or meal, as it is more common for couples to go “Dutch” for the first couple of dates they go on. Women have commonly dominated relationships while men dominated the initial dating planning. More and more women are beginning to ask men that they are interested in on dates, thus they are taking the upper hand are then have to be the ones to plan the dates. So, how should you go about planning the perfect date that will impress the man you are interested in? Remember, men are a lot less complicated than women when it comes to their interests, make them know you are interested in the same things as they are and you will win them over.

We all know the usual dating routine, dinner and a movie. Usually the man plans it and chooses a fancy restaurant and a romantic movie to win over his date. This does not mean that this is what men want in a date, so do not follow that same boring procedure when planning a date for them. If you know the guy already, cater to his interests. If he is a sports fan, present him with tickets to his favorite sporting event and even invest in a jersey and wear it to the game. Show him that you are supportive of his interests and that you are willing to at least try to enjoy the same things that he does. This goes for pretty much everything, if he loves music get him tickets to see his favorite band or even if he is really into video games, sit down and play with him for an hour. Nothing will show a man that you are really interested and intrigued by him then trying to take on mutual hobbies and interests.

A lot of people disagree as to what is appropriate for someone to bring on a first date as a gift. Yes, chivalry is less evident these days, and romance has become less applicable, but there is no denying that if you want to impress, you should bring a gift. The key is to not break the bank or risk trying to look like a high roller. It is important to find the perfect medium. Show that you are interested and care enough to bring a gift, but do not come off looking flashy or overconfident. Often times an elaborate gift does not come off the way you expected. It makes you look desperate or makes it seem like money or material goods are all you can offer. So the question becomes what is the appropriate gift? Well it all depends on the situation and how well you know the person that you are engaging on the date with. There are two main types of gifts that you should acknowledge.

Impersonal Gifts

If you are entering the date without knowing much at all about the other person, you can’t go wrong with flowers. Now, keep in mind that you shouldn’t show up with an armful full of bouquets, but a simple single rose or a small arrangement will do the trick. Flowers are an impersonal gift but are always romantic. If you are just getting to know your date, or for instance, it is a blind date, flowers work out well as they are unobtrusive and will not be taken in the wrong context.

Personal Gift Ideas

Often times you may be taking out a date that you have known for awhile and have only recently decided to try and take things to the next level. In this instance, you most likely know a thing or two about your date and have an idea of their hobbies and or interests. You should take advantage of this and prove that you were listening when they spoke and show that you are attentive to their needs. If you know that your date is interesting in reading or writing, try buying a personal pen and or a classic novel that they may have mentioned previously. Keep your gift related to their interests and you will establish a quick bond that will get the date started off on the right foot.
